The Challenge

 

To move the mobile coffee business forward and meet consumer demand for quick high quality coffee. To achieve this to goals were developed with sole purpose of exceeding them. Xpresso wanted to increase and improve it's franchise image and increase the number of coffee's sold in the same amount of time without compromising quality over quantity.

 

The Solution

 

Hornet's PDA to PDA Ordering System (PPOS) which runs on the windows mobile platform was the solution of choice. In this situation two PDA's were used. One PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) was used to take orders and the that information was routed to a second PDA located in the Coffee Van. PDA's were chosen because the touch screens technology provided tremendous flexibility and ease of use. PDA's allow for greater data storage and reporting. It also allowed for retention of valued customers orders which further decreased downtime.

 

Vodaphones's new 3G Network, allowed for faster data through put which enables Hornet Maitre'D to preform better than it had on their GPRS network.

 

The Result

 

Hornet's PDA to PDA Ordering System (PPOS) significantly reduced downtime and enabled Xpresso to increase coffee sales by 4 cups per 15 minutes. Financially, this translated to a $3.00 per cup which resulted in a $70,000.00 increase in revenue for one year. The system has proven so successful that Xpresso franchisees are adopting this new technology.
